A TOTAL of 134 local government units in Eastern Visayas have been bestowed with the Calendar Year (CY) 2024 Good Financial Housekeeping recognition.

Accordingly, the Bureau of Local Government Supervision (BLGS) under the DILG has reported that Eastern Visayas has 134 Good Financial Housekeeping (GFH) Passers for CY 2024. This represents a noteworthy 12.6% increase over the 119 CY 2023 GFH passers from the previous year. Around 5 provinces, 7 cities, and 122 municipalities from different provinces were awarded the GFH for 2024 after passing the criteria.

The said criteria includes the most recent Commission on Audit (COA) audit opinion for being unqualified or qualified, based on the annual audit report posted on the COA website as of September 27, 2024, at the end of the SGLG National Validation. It also includes compliance with Full Disclosure Policy (FDP) requirements on the timely and complete posting of required financial documents in three conspicuous places and the FDP Portal for the second to fourth quarter of CY 2023 and the first quarter of CY 2024, based on the data provided by the FDP Central Team, BLGS-Policy Compliance Monitoring Division (BLGS-PCMD).

The GFH was established in 2010 and has been utilized by the department as an evaluation tool to gauge how well local governments are using public funds in a transparent manner. (By Gwen Maurillo / EV Mail March 3-9, 2025 issue)
