ON OCTOBER 9, 2024, THE CITY OF ORMOC in collaboration with the Liga ng mga Barangay-Ormoc City Chapter celebrated “Barangay Day,” and as part of the celebration, a Tanod Arnis Exhibition Demonstration was also held. Both events were held at the Ormoc City Superdome.
At the said event, local tanods demonstrated their self-defense and community protection skills through the Arnis demonstration, a form of traditional Filipino martial arts. The presentation not only engaged viewers but also served as a reminder of the vital role which barangay officials play in a community’s safety and security.
The event also included different activities that added up to the cheerful atmosphere, such as the search for the Kuratsa King and Queen, the semi-finals and finals of the Kali Eskrima Arnis Sparring Competition, the Anyo demonstration, a raffle draw, and an energizing community dance.
Accordingly, this festive activity promotes and enhances community collaboration between barangays and the local government unit to build a safer and more united community, as well as a celebration for their tireless efforts in maintaining peace and order in their respective communities.
The event was also graced by City Mayor Lucy Torres Gomez, Congressman Richard Gomez, City Councilor Caren Torres Rama, City Councilor Peter Rodriguez, Liga ng mga Barangay President Esteban Laurente, SK Federation President Krizea Caessandra Mercadal, HEMS Dr. Gerry Penserga, Atty. Ari Larrazabal, DILG-CLGOO Jean Redi Briones, and City Treasurer Delia Vilbar. (By James Gadiano / EV Mail October 7-13, 2024 issue)
