‘SAVING KAN’ CAPTURES HEARTS, BAGS 2024 GALING POOK AWARD. LGU-Ormoc City’s entry, “Saving Kan: A Love Story in Ormoc Bay,” not only won hearts but also gave the city its 2024 Galing Pook Award, marking another milestone for the city of beautiful people and affirming that its efforts to protect the environment and to promote sustainability for generations to come are not for naught.

The award-winning project focuses on the rescue, rehabilitation, and conservation of marine mammals and reptiles in Ormoc Bay. Through the establishment of a dedicated rehabilitation center, the project ensures the recovery of injured marine species and promotes community education on marine conservation. The initiative fosters a strong connection between local communities and their environment, helping to preserve the biodiversity of Ormoc Bay and contribute to sustainable marine ecosystem management.

On the one hand, the Galing Pook Award searches for and recognizes innovative practices by local government units and its outstanding initiative projects. This prestigious recognition highlights the support and commitment of LGUs to sustainable, innovative, and effective governance across the Philippines.
