ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 10, 2025, the first Solo Parents Monthly Subsidy Distribution was held at the Ormoc City Superdome led by the Local Government Unit of Ormoc through the City Social Welfare Department (CSWD). A total of 718 beneficiaries received PHP1,000.00 each.
The subsidy is granted under Republic Act No. 11861, also known as the “Expanded Solo Parents Act,” which provides support to solo parents across the Philippines. In addition, the assistance is further supported by a local ordinance in Ormoc, specifically, Ordinance No. 109, Series of 2024, entitled “An Ordinance Amending Ordinance No. 017, Series of 2020, Also Known as the Solo Parents Welfare Ordinance of Ormoc City.” Accordingly, the beneficiaries will continue to receive the subsidy on a monthly basis, providing ongoing financial support to solo parents to help cover their daily expenses, such as school fees, groceries, and other essential needs.
During the event, Ormoc City officials expressed their heartfelt appreciation and support for the solo parents, acknowledging the sacrifices they make every day in raising their children, and assured them that the government will continue the efforts to provide essential support to families in need. The ceremony was graced by Chairperson of the Committee on Social Services, Population Management and Vulnerable Sectors, City Councilor Caren Torres Rama; Former City Vice Mayor Leo Carmelo Locsin, Jr.; City Councilor Peter Rodriguez; City Councilor Edmund Kierulf; City Councilor Lalaine Marcos; SK Federation President Krizea Caessandra Mercadal; Atty.
