CONSTRUCTION OF PHP96-M FLOOD CONTROL STRUCTURE IN KANANGA, UNDERWAY. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Leyte 4th District Engineering Office (DEO) reports that construction is in full swing for the 551-meter Sto. Niño Flood Control Structure in Brgy. Sto. Niño, Kananga, Leyte.
Funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) 2025 with a contract amount of PHP96,017,494.85, the project officially began last February 2025 and is slated for completion by December 2025.
Residents report that water in the river swells rapidly during rainfall which threatens homes, farmlands, as well as road accessibility. Once completed, it will serve as a protective barrier for the flood-prone area, significantly improving the overall safety of the community. (PR/EV Mail June 2-8, 2025 issue)
