TACLOBAN CITY – At least 25 former rebels have been employed as forest rangers by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Borongan City, wherein they are entrusted with the vital mission of safeguarding and preserving the lush, dense forests that surround the city.

The former rebels recently received their first salary as part of the city government’s collaboration with the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Eastern Samar and 78th Infantry (Warrior) Battalion. Their contributions in the fight against illegal logging, environmental degradation, and other ecological threats were also recognized.

On the one hand, Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda commended the 78IB for its efficient facilitation and support for peace, development, and environmental programs in the area. He also assured that every Boronganon should be given equal opportunities in achieving a peaceful and progressive life. “This program emphasizes that here in Borongan, nobody will be left behind,” Mayor Agda assured.
