ORMOC CITY – The City College of Ormoc (CCO) was bestowed with the Institutional Recognition (IR) Certificate from the Commission on Higher Education-Regional Office (CHEDRO) 8 headed by its Regional Director Dr. Maximo C. Aljibe on July 15, 2024.
The said certificate was given after a series of meticulous evaluation and validation activities. The IR refers to a process by which CHED awards recognition to an educational institution as a higher education institution (HEI) that conforms to the minimum standards for quality education. Furthermore, the said recognition assures that CCO has complied with systems and procedures such as selection of president, having a permanent faculty, and school facilities, among other requirements.
On behalf of City Mayor Lucy Torres Gomez, the IR Certificate was received by Ma. Victoria Lyra P. Dela Cerna, officer-in-charge (OIC) President/College Administrator, together with the said institution’s management team.
Accordingly, by virtue of said recognition, CCO is now a fully qualified higher education institution in region 8 that is capable and competent to offer quality education to Ormocanons and students from neighboring municipalities and cities through its baccalaureate programs, which include Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA), Bachelor of Science in Office Administration (BSOA), Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Major in Marketing Management (BSBA-MM), and Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW).
While CCO envisions to promote equitable access and ensure the quality and relevance of higher education institutions and their programs. CHED, on the other hand, ensures and protects academic freedom for continuing intellectual growth, the advancement of learning and research, the development of responsible and effective leadership, the education of high-level professionals, and the enrichment of historical and cultural heritage.
