MAHAPLAG, LEYTE – Depression pushed a father and son to attempt suicide by drinking pesticide in this small town on December 20, 2022.
The said father is Joselito Calusayan, 51 years old, a resident of Barangay Hiluctogan, Mahaplag, Leyte, and his son is 7-year-old “Jan” who is accordingly a Grade 2 student in the said barangay elementary school.
The father and son, accordingly, were rushed to the hospital after a concerned citizen reported to police authorities the said attempted suicide incident.
Based on the initial investigation of the police authorities, Joselito is experiencing depression after being left by his live-in partner, which prompted him to poison himself and his son with the aid of a pesticide. As of this writing, the father and son have been transferred to the Eastern Visayas Medical Center (EVMC) and are now recovering from the ill-effects of drinking pesticide.
