TACLOBAN CITY – At least 25 units of ambulance were turned over by the Department of Health (DOH) in Eastern Visayas and Tingog Partylist to different local government units in Eastern Visayas on Tuesday (April 30).
The procurement of said vehicles were made under the Health Facility Enhancement Program of the DOH. The said units are equipped with life-saving tools like defibrillators, laryngoscopes, suction machines, immobilization devices, and communication equipment.
In Leyte province, the municipalities of Matag-ob, Bato, Mahaplag, Merida, and Villaba were among the recipients.
The municipalities of Naval, Cabucgayan, Biliran, Maripipi in Biliran; Allen, Lavezarez, Lope de Vega, and Gamay in Northern Samar; Gandara, Catbalogan Rural Health Unit, Samar Provincial Hospital and Calbayog District Hospital in Samar; Sogod, Liloan in Southern Leyte; and Lawaan, Dolores, Salcedo in Eastern Samar province also received a unit.
Matag-ob town Mayor Bernandino Tacoy said the newest addition to their ambulance vehicles would greatly help in delivering health services to the people. “When I assumed as Matag-ob in 2022, Matag-ob did not have operational ambulances, now we already have five, which are a big help, especially in emergencies,” he shared.
It can be recalled that the first batch of ambulance vehicles were turned over in February and March to other LGUs in the region making a total of 70 units. By Marie Tonette Marticio (EV Mail April 29-May 5, 2024 issue)
