ORMOC CITY – The driver of a Mitsubishi pick-up, who allegedly committed a hit-and-run and caused the instantaneous death of a delivery rider along the highway of Barangay Juaton in this city on February 14, 2025, has surrendered to police at around 3:00 in the afternoon on February 17, 2025.
The driver of said vehicle, which bears the plate number HAH 5310, is aliased “Danilo,” of legal age, a Punong Barangay, and a resident of the Municipality of San Isidro, Leyte, while the victim is aliased “Dario,” 40 years old, and a resident of Barangay Juaton who was driving his Yamaha Sniper 150 motorcycle at the time the incident happened. The same incident also hurt a 25-year-old motorist, identified as alias “Daniel,” who was driving a Yamaha Sniper 155 motorcycle, and a resident of Mabini Street, Bote Bato, Catanduanes.
To recall, at around 1:40 P.M. on February 14, the suspect and the victims were traversing on the same road in Barangay Juaton heading to Ormoc City proper when the Mitsubishi pick-up overtook Daniel’s motorcycle, which resulted in him and his motorcycle colliding with Dario’s.
According to the initial investigation of the police, as the suspect overtook and rammed Daniel’s motorcycle, Daniel was thrown off in Dario’s direction, which resulted in him falling on the ground. Because of the impact, Dario was dead on the spot as his helmet was removed during said incident and he hit his head on the cemented road. On the other hand, Daniel sustained injuries and was brought to the hospital.
According to Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) Police Lieutenant Colonel (P/Lt.Col.) Delfin D. Tan, the driver claimed that he did not stop during said incident because he did not notice that he hit a motorcycle.
