ORMOC CITY – A former person deprived of liberty (PDL), who was once involved in illegal drugs, was killed after being chased from barangays Linao to Naungan, this city, and eventually shot at around 9:00 in the evening, Friday (July 12).
This city’s police identified the victim as one Rosindo Alunan, 52, of Purok 1, barangay Naungan, and was seen driving a Toyota Innova from the city proper to Naungan when the shooting incident happened.
Accordingly, at about 9:50 in the evening, Ormoc City Police Station (OCPS) 4 received a call from a concerned citizen regarding a shooting incident at the said locations. Thus, personnel from OCPS-4 immediately responded and thereafter, saw the lifeless body of the victim outside his vehicle.
Police Major Angelo Sibunga, chief of Police Station 4, shared that initial investigation revealed that the victim was driving his car from Ormoc City proper when an unidentified suspect on board a single motorcycle and black SUV opened fire at him with the use of an unknown caliber of firearm. The victim then sped off, but the suspects pursued him and continued shooting, hitting him multiple times; and that upon arriving at Linao Elementary School, the suspects inside the black SUV shot several times at the Innova.
Further, according to those who witnessed the said incident in barangay Linao, the victim was able to retaliate until he reached Purok 3 in barangay Naungan; and that per the bystanders in the said village, the victim’s Innova made a U-turn but crashed into the gutter, that thereafter, the victim was able to get out of the car through the passenger side but was caught by the motorcycle rider, who shot him again, resulting in his death.
The victim’s body, accordingly, was pierced with bullets and his head was cut open. Sibunga added that the victim was arrested on October 31, 2018 for illegal drugs. However, as of this writing, the police are still unclear as to the motive of the crime, but they are not ruling out the possibility that it is related to the victim’s previous drug case. In addition, following the rumors going around, the police is set to verify whether or not the victim was an LGU-Albuera employee. The police recovered from the crime scene several bullet casings of a suspected armalite and caliber .45, while a dragnet operation was immediately requested for activation.
