ORMOC CITY – A Hydroponics Demonstration Garden located at the Good Governance Building was officially turned over on May 9, 2025.
The project, accordingly, is a partnership of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Ormoc, Rotary Club of Ormoc, and Trophy Farms, through the Halina’t Magtanim ng Prutas at Gulay (HAPAG) Program.

The turnover event showcased how urban spaces can be transformed into sustainable, soil-less gardens that help boost food security, nutrition, and community resilience. Further, the said demo garden also serves as a model for barangays to be imitated, and, thus, inspiring more localized, sustainable farming practices.
HAPAG Program, on the one hand, aims to address food insecurity and hunger by encouraging residents to grow fruits and vegetables through community gardens.
Accordingly, HAPAG or the PBBM Program is a whole-of-government initiative that aims to enhance access to fresh, safe, and affordable food through urban and peri-urban agriculture and community engagement.
The said turnover ceremony was attended by village chieftains, community leaders, and partners. (By Gwen Maurillo/EV Mail MAY 12-18, 2025 issue)
