POLICE REGIONAL Office director PBrig. Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil rendered a courtesy resignation, together with 20 other high officials of the PNP in the region, in compliance to the directive of Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos, Jr. amid allegation of drug involvement of many police officials.

Marbil said the courtesy resignation aims to give the DILG a free hand in their conduct of investigation on drug allegations and will promote transparency within the organization.

He said he is confident that none of the personnel in PRO-8 is involved in drugs especially that a regular evaluation is being done. Marbil signed an affidavit attesting that he is not involved in any illegal activity and that no third level officer in PRO-8 is involved in illegal drug activity based on records.

“We do not condone involvement in any illegal drug activities among our ranks,” he said.

Marbil also assured the public of the professionalism of the whole police organization in Eastern Visayas.

“Be rest assured that all PRO-8 personnel from patrolmen to the highest rank are not involved in illegal drug activity or any other illegal activities. Every day, we evaluate our personnel. We validate them and if proven to be involved in any illegal activity not only in illegal drugs, I make sure that they are relieved from their posts immediately and have them investigated,” he said.

PRO-8 has 10,535 police officers assigned at the regional office and six provincial offices. By Elmer Recuerdo (EV Mail January 9-15, 2023 issue)
