TACLOBAN CITY – Anti-illegal drug enforcers raided a salon and its adjacent eatery suspected to be a drug den and recovered at least 200 grams of suspected shabu past midnight on Thursday, 18 August, in this city.

Operatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 8 and Tacloban City Police Office-City Drug Enforcement Unit said the drugs worth Php 1.3 million that were recovered after the buy-bust operation is the biggest drug haul in this city this year.

The authorities arrested Rey Marck Macawile, alias “Verna”, owner of Verna Salon and Verna Carenderia, where the drugs were recovered. Macawile is said to be a High-Value Target (HVT) for drug dealing and a drug den maintainer.

Novemar Pinanonang, PDEA city officer, said Macawile has been placed under surveillance after they received reports from civilians regarding his suspicious activities.

The operatives also arrested Jackie Morales, Sherwin Mark Troyo, and Jay-r Ramilo Aco, who were present in the area as visitors when the raid was conducted.

The four were detained at the PDEA detention facility while awaiting the filing of cases in court for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Police City Director PCol. Michael Palermo commended the police operatives for the successful operation and emphasized its commitment to the anti-illegal campaign of the PNP. Palermo also encourages the public to be of help in giving information on drug related activity to the nearest authority. By Elmer Recuerdo (EV Mail August 15-21, 2022 issue)
