TACLOBAN CITY – The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Samar has issued a resolution declaring the entire province under a state of emergency to anticipate and curb the unfavorable effects of the repair of the San Juanico Bridge, Tuesday (May 20).

The said resolution on motion of Board Member Edward James Clemens was seconded by the majority of the board. Further, the SP of Samar, during its 150th session also requested the Philippines Ports Authority, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and other concerned NGAs, including the City of Tacloban to extend aid or assistance to swiftly address the current predicament of the Province. It also asked to open alternative routes for the unimpeded transportation of logistics and essential supplies in Samar Island.

The DPWH recently issued a memorandum implementing a temporary load limit to three tons for all vehicles crossing the bridge to prevent further deterioration and to ensure the safety of travelers and local communities. (By Marie Tonette Marticio/EV Mail  MAY 19-25, 2025 issue)
