ORMOC CITY – Once again, the Philippine Coast Guard Eastern Visayas (PCG-EV), under the leadership of Commodore Romeo P. Pulido, Jr., proved its every station personnel’s quick response capability, especially in saving lives at sea at a time when the public is in solemn observance of the Holy Week.
Based on the report gathered by the Eastern Visayas Mail, on April 17, 2025 (Holy Wednesday), personnel from Coast Guard Station (CGS) Northern Samar responded and successfully carried out a Medical Evacuation of Martin Comia Arellano, a Filipino crewmember onboard the Singapore-flagged tanker vessel M/T TORM GWYNETH. The patient was reported to be suffering from low blood pressure and a suspected heart attack while the vessel was positioned off Brgy. Mapno, Palapag, Northern Samar.
Mr. Arellano was then safely transferred to shore via CGS Northern Samar’s rubber boat. Upon arrival at the Port of Allen, he was promptly brought to Allen District Hospital for initial medical evaluation. But due to unstable vital signs, the patient was later transported—through the coordination of the vessel’s company agent—to Catarman Doctors Hospital for further diagnostic procedures, including an electrocardiogram (ECG) and chest X-ray. Finally, PCG -EV further said that according to the vessel’s agent, the patient is expected to be transferred to Manila for further medical care once he is deemed fit to travel.
