TACLOBAN CITY – Sogod, Southern Leyte Mayor Sheffered Lino Tan confirmed the first Monkeypox (Mpox) case in their municipality.

Accordingly, the first Mpox case in Eastern Visayas is a 28-year-old female with no travel history; and that she has fully recovered while her symptoms have been managed.

He disclosed that the patient first exhibited symptoms in May. She was immediately isolated and monitored while local health officials conducted contact tracing.

Municipal Health Officer Isabelita Mato said that the confirmatory result was received two weeks after sending a swab sample to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).

Mayor Tan urged the public not to panic and sought their support and cooperation to healthcare workers. The LGU created a task force to control and prevent the disease from spreading.
