ORMOC CITY – The Local Government Unit of Ormoc, in collaboration with the City Social Welfare Department (CSWD) and AKVO Applied Psychology Center, hosted the transformative “Soul Food: Grassroots Wellbeing of Parents” event at the Ormoc City Hall-Multipurpose Hall from July 22-24, 2024.
The program emphasized the crucial role of personal wellness in managing family responsibilities and supporting children’s development. Through sessions that encouraged participants to revisit their childhood memories, the participants gained insights into their own wellness needs, fostering a more empathetic understanding of their children’s experiences.
Led by psychologist Anna Kathrina Oaminal-Watin, the event aimed to empower Ormocanon parents with invaluable knowledge and emotional tools. “I am human. I am not perfect. I am doing the best that I can and that is all I can do,” remarked Watin, encapsulating a poignant reminder during the culminating discussion of the event.
Her words resonated deeply with all participants, affirming the validity of their efforts and emphasizing the importance of self-compassion in parenting and personal growth. Districts 1-6 actively participated in the program, underscoring a community-wide commitment to holistic family wellbeing and personal growth. By Joanna Grace Dueñas (EV Mail July 22-28, 2024 issue)
