ORMOC CITY – A total of 9,603 citation tickets were, accordingly, issued by this city’s Traffic Enforcement and Management Office (TEAM) to traffic violators in the year 2024.

The office reported that in January 2024, 680 citation tickets were issued to violators; 522 in February; 572 in March; 685 in April; 1,293 in May; 912 in June; 799 in July; 323 in August; 521 in September; 1,683 in October; 1,053 in November; and 560 in December. Further, the said data showed that the highest number of traffic violations is obstruction, which has a total number of 3,169, followed by Disregarding of Traffic Sign (DTS), which has a total number of 2,586, and counterflow violation came in at number three, totaling 1,165.

Obstruction is a traffic violation that occurs when a vehicle or object blocks the passage of other vehicles on the road. The TEAM Office stated that said violation is one reason that traffic congestion and road accidents happen; thus, their traffic enforcers are strict in implementing rules against violators. On the other hand, DTS refers to a traffic violation where a driver ignores or fails to follow the instructions given by a road sign, essentially not adhering to the rules set out by the traffic signage. Finally, a counterflow traffic violation occurs when a driver moves their vehicle against the flow of traffic.

Team Operation Officer, Rambo Camingawan, is, thus, calling the attention of drivers to read every road and traffic signage that are being placed on the roads and follow such signs to avoid being issued citation tickets by the city’s traffic enforcers. On the other hand, in case the said signs could not be understood by motorists, they can approach or ask the traffic enforcers deployed in the city, said Camingawan. (By Gwen Maurillo / EV Mail FEB. 3-9, 2025 issue)
