ISABEL, LEYTE – A 30-year-old woman was arrested for stabbing her neighbor over a malicious gossip.

Accordingly, personnel from the Isabel Municipal Police Station (Isabel MPS) immediately responded to said stabbing incident in Sto. Niño Highway, Barangay Sto. Niño, Isabel, Leyte, which led to the apprehension of the suspect in the afternoon of February 2, 2025. The suspect was identified as alias “Bel,” 30 years old, while the victim was known as alias “Lyn,” 23 years old. Both are female, single, unemployed, and residents of the said locality.

The Isabel MPS team said that it received a phone call from a concerned citizen that a stabbing incident had occurred in the area. Based on their initial investigation, the victim confronted the suspect at the latter’s residence for allegedly spreading rumors that the victim’s sister was a prostitute. When the victim opened the door, the suspect was already armed with a bladed weapon and attempted to repeatedly stab the victim’s face. However, the victim managed to step back to avoid being struck by the suspect’s weapon. She was still wounded though when the suspect suddenly thrusted the weapon into the victim’s body. For this reason, the victim received a slight strike on her stomach from the tip of the blade.

A knife measuring 10 inches from the handle to tip was found to have been used in the stabbing and was seized at the scene. The victim was immediately brought to the Isabel Emergency Hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, upon her arrest, the suspect was informed of the nature of her arrest and her constitutional rights in a language she understood. She was then taken to the Isabel MPS along with the weapon used for proper documentation and further disposition.

On the one hand, Police Captain (PCapt.) Jose Bayona of Isabrel MPS strongly advised everyone not to take justice into their own hands. “Please follow the proper legal procedures to ensure that justice is served. The authorities are here to assist you and address any concerns, helping to prevent incidents like this from happening again,” he said. (By Gwen Maurillo / EV Mail FEB. 3-9, 2025 issue)
