TACLOBAN CITY – A 23-year-old woman from San Roque town in Northern Samar is now facing charges after allegedly attempting to sell her two-month-old baby online.
The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, took to Facebook to advertise the sale of her infant for PHP60,000.00.
The Women and Children Protection Center (WCPC) of the Philippine National Police responded to the post by posing as potential buyers of the child. The negotiations ensued, leading to an agreement that the exchange would take place in Brgy. Narra, Catarman.
Following the completion of the transaction, authorities successfully apprehended the suspect, and rescued her two children. The suspect now faces charges under Republic Act 9208, known as the “Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2022,” in connection with RA 7610, also known as the Anti-Child Abuse Law.
The two children, including the infant, have been turned over to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office for protection. By Marie Tonette Marticio (EV Mail June 3-9, 2024 issue)
