WLC STUDENTS BECOME CPR-READY. In support of the implementation of the provision of Republic Act 10871 and to empower students, teachers, and school staff with a vital life-saving skill in Western Leyte College (WLC) of Ormoc City, the LGU-Ormoc conducted the “KUMIKILOS para sa Kahandaan, Kaligtasan, at Katatagan,” which took place in the said institution’s gymnasium on July 17, 2025.
The activity is in line with National Disaster Resilience Month and the celebration of National Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Day, which is celebrated every 17th of July as mandated by Republic Act No. 10871, also known as the Basic Life Support Training in Schools Act, which mandates that public and private basic education schools in the Philippines provide age-appropriate basic life support (BLS) training to their students.
The local government unit of Ormoc through the City Health Department-HEMS Section and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), in partnership with Western Leyte College of Ormoc, carried out said activity, which highlighted Hands-Only CPR to raise awareness and educate the community about safety, readiness, and resilience during emergencies and natural disasters.
The program is significant because it seeks to raise understanding of CPR on a larger scale, making all Filipinos “CPR ready.” (By Gwen Maurillo / EV Mail JULY 14-20, 2025 issue)
