1,451 BENEFIT FROM ORMOC’S THREE-DAY ACUPUNCTURE MEDICAL MISSION. Numerous Ormocanons and individuals from nearby municipalities grab the free wellness services offered by LGU-Ormoc through the SMIC Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine Inc. during its three-day Acupuncture Medical Mission, which took place at the Superdome on July 14-16, 2025. A total of 1,451 individuals benefited from free services of acupuncture, chiropractic massage, and ventosa therapy treatments, which procedures were executed by certified and trained Chinese practitioners who were assisted by wellness volunteers from the local community.
In her message during the kick-off program, Ormoc City Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez said that public access to wellness therapies is a focus of the city’s preventative health program and gave an affirmation on her administration’s dedication to both modern and traditional healing approaches.
On July 16, SMIC practitioners were thanked and received plaques of recognition from this local government unit for their exceptional service.
Accordingly, acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that uses needles to stimulate energy flow, promote healing, and balance Qi, primarily used for pain treatment. On the other hand, a chiropractic therapy offers pain reduction, headache relief, improved posture, sleep quality, energy levels, and immune system boost, enhancing overall well-being. Finally, ventosa cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine where a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. The idea is to draw blood to or away from parts of your body for pain and inflammation relief, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.
