ORMOC CITY – Around 500 delegates from Leyte and Southern Leyte participated in the recent Information Caravan, dubbed “Agrikultura Para sa Masaganang Bagong Pilipinas,” held at the Southern Leyte Provincial Gymnasium on August 28, 2025.
The caravan orchestrated by the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office 8 (DA-RFO 8) aims to provide the participants with direct access to vital agricultural knowledge and services.
During the activity, delegates actively participated in discussions pertaining to the department’s key programs.
This year’s agenda focused on important topics such as the Sagip Saka, protecting innovation in agriculture, and specific interventions for the High-Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) and the corn and rice programs.
Furthermore, the National Young Farmers Act, enterprise growth, disaster risk reduction and management, and clustering and consolidation were the topics of other workshops.
This initiative was acknowledged by Director Larry U. Sultan, Regional Technical Director for Operations of DA RFO 8, as a way to provide clarification on some of the questions that were answered at the open forum. He emphasized that there is a bigger probability that the delegates’ requests can be granted if they are in a group, whether it is an association or cooperative that is active.
Meanwhile, during the caravan, the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC), and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) also supported the information caravan wherein they distributed various information, education, and communication (IEC) materials and provided direct consultations to farmers, offering valuable resources for their farm operations.
