TACLOBAN CITY – A 51-year-old farmer was declared dead-on-arrival at the hospital after being hacked by his son in Brgy. Dagsa, Sogod, Southern Leyte, Sunday (July 20).
Initial investigation disclosed that the suspect, identified as alias “Mike,” 27, went on a violent rampage, destroying items inside their house. When the victim, identified as alias “Ali” entered the residence in an attempt to calm him down, the suspect suddenly hacked the victim multiple times using a 30-inch flat bar. The victim was hit on his hand and face. 

Ali was declared dead on arrival at Corrompido General Hospital, also in Sogod town. The suspect reportedly fled toward the mountainous area of the said barangay after the incident. 

A follow-up investigation and hot pursuit operation have been launched by the Sogod Municipal Police Station to arrest the fleeing suspect. (By Marie Tonette Marticio / EV Mail JULY 21-27, 2025 issue)
