DPWH COMPLETES ORMOC MULTI-PURPOSE SPORTS BUILDING. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Leyte 4th District Engineering Office (DEO) has completed the construction of a Multi-Purpose Building in Brgy. Juaton, Ormoc City which will serve as a venue for badminton and squash.
The multi-year project was implemented in two phases. Phase 1 was funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2022 with a contract amount of PHP34,299,992.24, while Phase 2 was funded under GAA 2024 with a contract amount of PHP69,200,000.00. The building houses six badminton courts and two squash courts in a 40-meter by 45-meter open area. Supporting features include two restrooms and one PWD-accessible restroom, two shower rooms with dressing areas, two storage rooms, and a 10-meter by 30-meter lobby.
“The completion of this Multi-Purpose Building is a big boost to Ormoc City’s sports scene,” said OIC-District Engineer Peter Scheler V. Soco. “It gives our athletes a safe and modern space to train and compete, while also encouraging more people, especially the youth, to discover and enjoy sports.”
Situated in Brgy. Juaton, the Multi-Purpose Building adds to the city’s established sports hub, which also includes the pump track and skate park, making the area a vibrant center for recreation, and active lifestyle. (PR/EV Mail SEPTEMBER 1-7, 2025 issue)
