TACLOBAN CITY – A 60-year-old female fruit vendor was stabbed to death by her helper, Sunday (July 6), at the Calbayog City Public Market.

A witness reported hearing the victim shouting, “Tama na, tama na,” from his store, which prompted him to check on the situation. Thereat, he saw the 20-year-old suspect holding a kitchen knife stabbing the victim several times, hitting the different parts of her body. 

This prompted the witness to call for help. The suspect was immediately arrested by a cop who was at the market when he received the report.

The suspect, who worked as a helper for the victim, was reportedly being frequently scolded by the victim.

The victim was declared dead upon arrival at the Calbayog District Hospital. Thereafter, a post-mortem examination was requested by the Calbayog City Police. (By Marie Tonette Marticio / EV Mail  JULY 7-13, 2025 issue)
