TACLOBAN CITY – A woman has died after a coconut tree fell on a house in Purok 3, Brgy. Malajog, Tinambacan District, Calbayog City during the onslaught of Tropical Storm “Opong,” Friday (September 26).
According to a report filed by the Calbayog City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) Rescue Team with the Calbayog City Police Station, the incident occurred at approximately 3:00 in the morning.
Initial investigation revealed that alias “Vilma” had evacuated to her cousin’s live-in partner’s residence around 7:00 PM on Thursday, as a precautionary measure against the typhoon. While the group was asleep, an adjacent coconut tree collapsed onto the house, fatally striking Vilma.
Vilma’s body has been taken to Bornec Funeral Services. Calbayog CPS is coordinating with the City Health Office for a post-mortem examination. By Marie Tonette Marticio (EV Mail SEPTEMBER 22-28, 2025 issue)
