ORMOC CITY – The local government unit of Ormoc extended assistance to the localities of
Tabogon and San Remigio in northern Cebu, which were among those rocked by the 6.9-magnitude (MW) earthquake that struck Cebu and surrounding provinces at around 9:59 P.M. on September 30, 2025.
City officials of LGU-Ormoc, led by Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez, sent off relief goods for the two earthquake-hit municipalities at 6:00 in the evening on October 2, 2025. The aid arrived in Cebu City, led by City Vice Mayor Leo Carmelo Locsin, Jr., the following day. The said relief goods included 500 sacks of rice, 334 boxes of 1.5-liter bottled mineral water, 200 hygiene kits, 100 family-sized mosquito nets, 50 polynet mosquito nets, 40 sets of bed sheets, 25 boxes of corned beef, 10 boxes of milk, 10 boxes of biscuits, eight kilograms of instant pancit canton noodles, seven sacks of monggo beans, three boxes of beef loaf, and a half sack of bihon.
Accordingly, Mayor Gomez chose the said localities as recipients because, according to reports, relief aid to the said towns is still scarce. The send-off was also witnessed by Sangguniang Panlungsod Member (SPM) Tommy Serafica, SPM Gerry Penserga, SPM Peter
Rodriguez, SPM Caren Torres Rama, City Administrator Vincent Emnas, and Executive-Legislative Liaison Officer Dr. Gregorio Yrastorza III.
To recall, the earthquake struck 12 miles northeast of Bogo City in Cebu province in the country’s central Visayas region, with the epicenter located 19 kilometers northeast offshore of Bogo City and an estimated depth of 5 kilometers. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has recorded 4,161 aftershocks after the 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Bogo City, Cebu, as of 12:00 noon on October 3, 2025.
Furthermore, using the PHIVOLCS Earthquake Intensity Scale (PEIS), the highest reported intensity is PEIS VII (Destructive), which was felt in Bogo City, Daanbantayan, Medellin, San Remigio, and Tabuelan in Cebu Province. By Gwen Maurillo (EV Mail September 29-October 5, 2025 issue)
