PALO, LEYTE – Newly-installed commander of the Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8), Brig. General Jason Capoy, emphasized that aside from quick response, the police must do what is right without taking shortcuts in responding to crimes.

“Our local PNP here in Region 8 should be quick and fast in responding to criminality. I don’t want it to take days to resolve (issues),” he stressed.

The official led the turnover of 60 body-worn cameras to provincial and city police officers on Wednesday (August 20). The provision of additional equipment aims to enhance PRO-8’s transparency during operations.

The 60 BWCs are allocated as follows: 19 for Leyte PPO, 6 for Southern Leyte PPO, 4 for Samar PPO, 8 for Eastern Samar PPO, 9 for Northern Samar PPO, 4 for Biliran PPO, 4 for Tacloban City Police Office, and 6 for Ormoc City Police Office.

RD Capoy emphasized enhancing skills like gun handling through training and establishing strong working relationships in barangays, particularly with police chiefs to improve information sharing, adding, “Every day is training day. PRO-8 should not only be satisfied with good investigators. Our legal team should always conduct re-education. I will create a mobile team that will train our respective police stations.” By Marie Tonette Marticio (EV Mail AUGUST 18-24, 2025 issue)
