TACLOBAN CITY – A 69-year-old man died when his driven vehicle slipped the ramp, Wednesday (June 28), of the Liloan Ferry Terminal in Brgy. San Roque, Liloan, Southern Leyte.

The fatality was identified as Fernando Dela Cruz, a resident of Brgy. Naparaan Salcedo, Eastern Samar.

He was onboard an SUV with his wife Olympia and four more passengers who were about to cross Liloan going to Mindanao.

Initial investigation disclosed that the victim maneuvered his vehicle at the ramp of the loading site of the Liloan Ferry Terminal. The tires of the said vehicle slipped due to heavy rainfall causing the vehicle to fall into the sea. 

All of the passengers were rescued by the responding crew of the ferry, except for the driver who sank together with the vehicle; and it took a few minutes before the rescuers were able to extricate him.  

The victims were rushed to Liloan Community Hospital of said town for immediate medical attention. 

At the said hospital, the driver was pronounced dead by the attending physician due to asphyxia secondary to drowning.His wife was referred to Christ the Healer Hospital for further medical attention in Sogod, Southern Leyte. By Marie Tonette Marticio (EV Mail June 26-July 2, 2023 issue)
