TACLOBAN City – President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. appointed his cousin Mayor Alfred Romualdez to head the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) in Eastern Visayas.

Romualdez took his oath of office on Thursday before the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Regional Director Arnel Agabe.

“Nagpapasalamat po ako sa ating Pangulo Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos sa tiwala na ibinigay sa atin,” Romualdez said in a post on his social media account.

Romualdez is a first cousin of the president.

Agabe said the city mayor “readily accepted the challenge” when he was informed of his appointment in a meeting. He also outlined a few strategies to help the peace and order situation in the region as well as expressed willingness to help strengthen the operations of the regional line agencies. The creation of peace and order councils in every province, city and municipality is mandated under Section 16 of Republic Act No. 7160, otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991, to ensure and maintain peace and order within their respective areas of jurisdiction.
