TACLOBAN CITY – Two persons were killed while seven others were hurt when a truck rammed into a house after falling into the side of the road along the Maharlika Bypass Road here on New Year’s Day.
The fatalities were identified as Laica Encomio and her cousin Rhemy Cuizon, both 23 years old, and residents of Zone 4B, Brgy. 110 Utap.
Information disclosed that the truck was traversing along the Bypass Road heading towards Abucay coming from Apitong area. Upon reaching a blind curve, the said vehicle allegedly lost control due to speeding and accidentally fell into a ravine.
The truck then rammed into the residence of Nolando and Merly Cuizon who were having a party with the other victims.
The two fatalities were reportedly rescued under the truck. All the injured victims were brought to the hospital while a one-year-old baby was left unharmed.
Laica and Rhemy died while being treated in the hospital, while the still unidentified male driver escaped. Authorities are still conducting a follow-up investigation while in pursuit of the driver. By Marie Tonette Marticio (EV Mail January 2-8, 2023 issue)
