AUTHORITIES HAVE WARNED fishermen and the so-called “manginhasay” to be careful because of the alleged presence of “suyak” or sharp bamboos on the shoreline and river in the docking areas of Brgy. Lao, Ormoc City.

According to Irish Belmonte of the Fishery, Coastal, and Aquatic Resources Management Division (FCARMD) of the City Agriculture Department (CAD), the coast guard and the police have been conducting operations for the possible arrest of the suspect/s who placed the “suyak” on the said areas since they received a report related to this.

According to the Police Mobile Force Company, there were around 30 victims who had been stabbed and injured because of these “suyak.” (By Gwen Maurillo / EV Mail July 3-9, 2023 issue)
