ORMOC CITY – A “Career Orientation Talk,” spearheaded by LGU-Ormoc through the City College of Ormoc (CCO), was attended by around 3,000 grade 12 students from various high schools in this city and held at the Ormoc City Superdome on Wednesday, April 12, 2023.

The said activity aimed to provide insights into the career opportunities available to students who wish to be enrolled in CCO and to familiarize students with the different career opportunities available to them after completing their studies in courses the the said city college offers.

During the activity, City Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez revealed that they consulted with experts to strengthen the foundation of their dream of building a community college. She also happily announced how ready the school is for its upcoming opening this August.

Further, it was Committee Chairman for Education and Manpower Development, Sangguniang Panlungsod Member (SPM) Atty. Nolito Quilang, who presented CCO’s degree programs, which include Bachelor of Science (BS) in Social Work, BS in Office Administration, BS in Business Administration major in Marketing Management, and BS in Public Administration.

On the other hand, Richard Tantoco, the President/COO of the Energy Development Corporation (EDC), also delivered an encouraging message, sharing to the students to use as inspiration the difficulty of achieving the dream of succeeding in school, saying “that in times of difficulty, efforts must be doubled to yield good results.”

Meanwhile, the “career talk” related to public administration was explained by Mel Senen Sarmiento, the chairperson of the Galing Pook Foundation and former secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Arnel Casanova, the president and CEO of Ablr Pte Ltd (Singapore), on the one hand, spoke about business and public administration while it was Jasmin Aguisanda-Jerusalem, the national chairperson of the Citizens Disaster Response Network and executive director of the Leyte Center for Development, Inc., who spoke about social work.

Finally, the talk on sales and marketing was delivered by Catherine Tantoco, the business unit head and marketing strategist of Acumen Strategy Consultants, and the topic about office administration was delivered by Fatima Irene Dela Pena from the Franciscan College of the Immaculate Conception (FCIC).
