ISABEL, LEYTE – The local government here has declared a cholera outbreak in the indigenous people (IP) village in its Brgy. Marvel.

Mayor Edgardo Cordeño confirmed that six of the 18 hospital confinements since March 26, 2023 have been positive for cholera.

However, he assured the public that the situation is now under control considering that they only have had one admission since April 8, 2023 with cholera-like symptoms.

He said that the LGU has provided the village with necessary assistance such as food packs, water, medicines, and vitamins for over 300 residents in the said village.

The Rural Health Unit has also taught the villagers about proper hygiene and sanitation to prevent the disease from further spreading.

The official further advises the public to practice boiling water and household water treatment with chlorine, water purifying tabs, and hyposol among other preventive measures.

“Cholera is not only happening in Isabel probably because of the weather condition so I encourage everyone to maintain and observe proper hygiene,” he urged. By Marie Tonette Marticio (EV Mail April 10-16, 2023 issue)
