ORMOC CITY – The Commission on Higher Education (CHED), through Fourth District of Leyte Representative Richard I. Gomez, distributed the Student Monetary Assistance for Recovery and Transition (SMART) grant for A.Y. 2023-2024 to its qualified beneficiaries at the Ormoc City Fencing Hall on Friday, February 8.
Accordingly, the SMART grantees include students whose parents’ combined household gross annual income do not exceed PHP 400,000.00 and are duly issued with a Certificate of Indigency. They are also enrolled in any undergraduate degree and not a scholar of any national government-funded scholarship or educational grant, except Free Higher Education programs.
The said beneficiaries received on the said day a one-time financial assistance of PHP 25,000.00. Finally, there were a total of 90 scholarship grantees in the different municipalities of the fourth district of Leyte who received the said monetary assistance, broken down into: Palompon (20), Albuera (20), Kananga (18), Matag-ob (15), Isabel (13) and Ormoc (4).
Gomez shared that the current administration takes pride in the educational systems in the city, as scholarship grantees have been constantly increasing throughout the years. “Helping students fulfill their education is indeed an honor, and I did my best to give something such as a budget for the students that will help them in their educational means,” he added.
