ORMOC CITY – A turnover ceremony of a newly rehabilitated concrete spillway worth more than PHP 38 million that connects Brgy. Quezon Jr. and Brgy. Can-untog, Ormoc City, took place on Friday, December 2, 2022.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by Fourth District of Leyte Representative Richard I. Gomez and was joined by the members of the 16th Sangguniang Panlungsod of Ormoc, Leyte Provincial Board Member Vince Rama, Engineer Peter Scheler Soco of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Leyte 4th District Engineering Office (DEO), Barangay Officials of Brgy. Quezon Jr. led by Punong Barangay Federico Manigao, and Brgy. Can-untog led by Punong Barangay Alexander Embayarte.
Accordingly, constituents of Brgy. Quezon Jr. and Brgy. Can-untog through PB Manigao and PB Embayarte expressed gratitude to the City Government of Ormoc, led by Mayor Lucy Torres Gomez, and to Congressman Gomez for making the said project possible.
The agency implementing the said project is the DPWH Leyte 4th DEO, headed by District Engineer Allan D. Eway.
The said spillway has a length of 30 linear meters and has an area of 286.2 square meters. Project construction started on May 23, 2022 and was completed on November 2022.
The contractor for the project was Aqualine Construction.
To recall, it was on September 6, 2021 when Typhoon ‘Jolina’ hit Ormoc and the entire Eastern Visayas, bringing with it moderate to heavy rains, which caused flooding in several barangays as well as totally damaging the original spillway in the said barangays. Currently, more than a year later, a new and sturdier spillway serves Brgy. Quezon Jr. and Brgy. Can-untog. By Gwen Maurillo (EV Mail November 28-December 4, 2022 issue)
